Expressing gratitude at every moment is a healthy way to feel good and boost your overall outlook on life!
Regular practice of expressing gratitude has the ability to create permanent mindset shifts that can enhance your lifestyle.
Did you know? Mindset shifts are so important when reducing stress!
Gratitude boosts your happiness and that’s great for your health. Science shows that improving your happiness also improves other areas of wellness in your life. I’ve found that gratitude has been an easy, but super effective way for me to live in the present while constantly tapping into feelings of love and happiness.
In fact, gratitude has been scientifically proven to:
● deepen feelings of abundance
● increase happiness
● enhance understanding
● create a greater capacity for love
● decrease feelings of fear
● reduce stress
● lower anxiety
● help people avoid or manage depression
Do you experience stress often? Experiencing stress frequently has been shown to be detrimental to one’s health. Research has determined that chronic stress can have the same impact on one’s health as being chased by a bear or other major life-threatening events. There are a number of lifestyle factors that can influence your level of stress like job satisfaction, sense of autonomy, quality of life, and much more. You may not be able to get a new job right away or change other lifestyle factors, but there are easy and effective ways to reduce stress. Gratitude is one method that helps.
Using gratitude during stressful times has been shown to be quite effective in reducing the negative impact of stress. A grateful person is able to view negative experiences in a more positive light. High levels of gratitude can increase happiness which in turn decreases stress, depression, and the unhealthy habit of constant comparison to someone else's life.
According to scientific research, regularly expressing gratitude can help you develop a heightened sense of fulfillment, joy, and appreciation for life. Grateful people experience increased self awareness that creates space to acknowledge and respect what is while remaining faithful of what will or can be. A strong sense of self protects one from weaker coping mechanisms that are often associated with dysfunctional attitudes, habits, and relationships.
Need a reminder?
Affirmations about gratitude are a fun and easy way to remind yourself to stay grateful in the present moment. Here are some of my favorite affirmations about gratitude:
● Everyone I encounter touches my life and enriches it. I am thankful for them.
● The more gratitude I feel. The more I am aware that the supply is endless.
● I express gratitude for all the wonderful things in my life and the great things that are coming.
● I gratefully accept the abundance of health and happiness that I am receiving today.
● Today I am thankful for my past which leads me to this moment where my dream journey begins anew.
You can find all of these affirmations and even quotes about gratitude as a free downloadable wallpaper here.
Ready to tap into feelings of happiness using gratitude? Here are some gratitude exercises you can practice right now:
● Write a letter of gratitude.
● Start a gratitude journal.
● Create a jar of gratitude.
● Journal about what you’re grateful for.
● Each day create a gratitude list.
● What would your life be like if some events never occurred? Write about how these events have impacted your life.
● Create your own affirmations of gratitude.
While all these activities are shown to be effective ways to express gratitude, science shows that some activities may seem more intimidating than others. If writing a letter to someone you’re grateful for seems like a bit much, then try listing out what you’re most grateful for. Gratitude should not be limited to things that others have done for you or given you. It’s wonderful to be grateful for all aspects of your life. You are a gift to yourself. How can you be grateful for who you are? How can you find gratitude in all areas of your life?
I’ve found that journaling has helped a lot! You can create your own journal or use a guide. The Gratitude Workbook is actually a 5-day guide that includes journal prompts to target different areas of your life as they relate to gratitude. It also includes daily affirmations for encouragement.
Practicing gratitude is an easy and effective way to boost your mood while reducing negative or unfavorable feelings. No matter how you choose to practice gratitude, try to incorporate it into your daily routine. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you!
